Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, medical terminology knowledge, and experience working within clinical environments. This role involves providing comprehensive support to healthcare providers, managing patient interactions, and ensuring the smooth operation of the medical office. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Greet patients and manage front desk operations with professionalism and courtesy, including appointment scheduling and patient check-in/out procedures.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance eligibility and benefits verification .
- Assist with medical billing and collection processes, ensuring accurate coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes, and medical terminology for procedures and diagnoses.
- Maintain and update electronic health records for accuracy and completeness.
- Support clinical staff by preparing patient charts, managing medical records, and handling intake forms efficiently.
- Coordinate appointment scheduling utilizing multi-line phone systems while demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and efficient typing skills.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all administrative activities.
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and managing office supplies to support daily clinic operations.
- Assist with medical coding processes for billing purposes and ensure documentation review aligns with insurance requirements.
- Support office management tasks including patient service coordination, office organization, and maintaining a welcoming environment for patients.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical environment is required
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR.
- Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and insurance verification processes depending on area of interest.
- Familiarity with health information management practices including documentation review and compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and bilingual capabilities are advantageous for serving diverse patient populations.
- Proven ability to handle administrative responsibilities efficiently within a fast-paced healthcare setting while maintaining attention to detail.
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
