Heavy Equipment Operator — Utilities

Wylie Construction is a Wyoming heavy civil contractor self-performing earthwork, grading, hauling, and utility installation on public works projects across southwest Wyoming. We are looking for an experienced equipment operator with a strong utility background to run our crews on water, sewer, and storm drain work.
What You'll Do
– Operate excavators, loaders, and dozers for utility installation and earthwork.
– Perform site grading and finish grade work — roadway subgrade, pads, and ditches.
– Install water, sewer, and storm drain pipe — including bedding, backfill, and compaction.
– Set and hold grade and line for pipe and structures (manholes, catch basins, valves, hydrants).
– Work safely in and around open trenches and follow trench safety requirements.
– Work from plans and grade stakes.
– Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
– Support the crew with general grading, hauling, and site work as needed.
What We're Looking For
– 3+ years operating heavy equipment on utility or civil construction projects.
– Hands-on experience installing water, sewer, and/or storm drain pipe.
– Solid understanding of grade, line, pipe bedding, and trench safety.
– Able to grade to a tenth (0.1 ft) accuracy.
– Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
– Willing to travel to projects in the region and work outdoors in variable weather.
– Able to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening.
Nice to Have
– CDL Class A.
– OSHA 10/30 and Competent Person / trench safety training.
– Utility locating, laser, and pipe laser experience.
