Reports to: Practice Development Manager
Location: On-site in Urgent Care
Schedule: Varying shifts of up to twelve (12) to fourteen (14) hours. Days, evenings, weekends and holidays required.
Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant provides high-quality patient care in a healthcare setting by supporting administrative (front desk) and clinical operations, assisting providers, and ensuring a positive patient experience. Responsibilities include supporting the entire patient experience from greeting and rooming patients to obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, processing specimens, maintaining accurate medical records, and assisting with clinical procedures.
FLSA STATUS: This position is a non-exempt role under the Fair Labor Standards Act; thus, it is eligible to receive overtime compensation, as appropriate. Overtime requires prior approval from the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- · Provide direct patient care including triage, history taking, and documentation
- · Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, height/weight, etc.)
- · EKG/Spirometry/Audiometry knowledgeable
- · Administer vaccines and nebulizer treatments
- · Perform phlebotomy (blood draws) and collect lab specimens
- · Assist providers with casting procedures
- · Ensure all lab orders and specimens are processed, tracked, and followed up
- · Maintain accurate and complete documentation in the EHR system
- · Gather and record patient medical history, including family, social, and medication history
- · Ensure all clinical quality/meaningful use measures are properly documented
- · Prepare exam rooms and support patient flow efficiently
- · Notify providers when patients are ready and communicate delays to patients/families
FRONT DESK AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- · Greet and register patients in a professional and friendly manner
- · Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage patient flow
- · Complete patient registration and insurance verification
- · Collect co-pays, self-pay balances, and outstanding account balances
- · Post payments and reconcile daily batches
- · Verify insurance eligibility and secure referrals/authorizations
- · Assist with faxing, scanning, filing, and medical records management
- · Ensure imaging/lab reports are received and available for provider review
CLINICAL SUPPORT AND FACILITY DUTIES
- · Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and equipment
- · Disinfect exam rooms and equipment between patients per infection control protocols
- · Restock supplies and maintain inventory
- · Dispose of medical waste and maintain a safe clinical environment
- · Coordinate lab and imaging reports for provider review prior to visits
- · Track referrals and diagnostic testing in required logs
- · Complete the Opening and Closing Checklist accordingly each shift
- · Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
CERTIFICATIONS
- · Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- · Completion of an accredited medical assistant training program.
Nationally Certified CMA or RMA required through one of the following certifications is required to be current and to be actively maintained while employed:
- CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA, National Healthcareer Association)
- CMA- Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistant)
- RMA- Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT, American Medical Technologists)
- NCMA- National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing)
- NRCMA- Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (verified through the National Association for Health Professionals).
- Recent experience working as a Medical Assistant (within the last 5 years)
