The Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival (JFest) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization dedicated to celebrating Jewish history, identity, and contemporary culture through the performing and visual arts.
While JFest anchors around its vibrant, multi-week spring festival, the organization provides year-round cultural programming across the San Diego region. JFest brings together local and international talent across a wide range of disciplines—including theater, live music, dance, comedy, and fine arts. Its offerings feature signature programs like the annual Women of Valor, world-premiere theatrical works, klezmer and world music concerts, and stand-up comedy. At its core, JFest is a community-driven organization designed to showcase the rich diversity of the global Jewish experience for audiences of all backgrounds throughout the entire year.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, self-motivated Part-Time Social Media Assistant to join our team! Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, you will play a key role in bringing JFest’s vibrant programming to life across our digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities
- Live Event & Backstage Coverage: Attend rehearsals, soundchecks, opening nights, and live performances to capture raw, engaging footage for Instagram Social Posts, Stories and Reels.
- Content Scheduling & Copywriting: Write witty, punchy, and informative captions. Manage scheduling platforms to keep our posting cadence consistent across all channels in alignment with our annual marketing plan.
- Promotional Campaigns: Execute creative social campaigns that build buzz for upcoming shows, season announcements, ticket drops, and membership drives.
- Trend Monitoring: Keep track of viral sounds, memes, and industry shifts to jump on timely content opportunities.
- Video Editing & Graphic Design: Cut, edit, and assemble short-form video content tailored for maximum engagement, and create polished graphics/stories using Canva or image-editing software.
- Community Engagement: Monitor social channels, respond to audience comments/messages, and foster community interaction across all platforms.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1–2 years managing social media channels, with a portfolio showcasing video content for live events, music, theater, or entertainment brands.
- Communication: Exceptional copywriting skills with the ability to adapt to a specific brand voice and guidelines.
- Platform Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the rules, formats, and cultures of top social media networks (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.).
- Mobile Production Skills: Exceptional mobile videography and editing skills (CapCut, Reels, TikTok, etc.) with a sharp eye for lighting and sound in a live venue setting.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Canva or professional photo/graphic editing tools.
- Performing Arts Knowledge: A genuine passion for theater, musical theater, or live music, with a strong understanding of industry terms and audience demographics.
- Flexible Schedule: Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover live shows and opening nights across the San Diego region.
Compensation & Hours
- Pay: $18 per hour
- Hours: Part-time Contract (1099), roughly 5-10 hours per week (hours may fluctuate around key festival dates and live event production schedules).
- Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid / On-site for events)
Working Conditions
The Social Media Associate will work a flexible, part-time schedule that ramps up during peak production periods and the spring festival season. This is a hybrid, independent contract (1099) position. While remote administrative work—such as content planning, graphic design, and video editing—is possible, in-person attendance at technical rehearsals, venue visits, opening nights, and live performances across the San Diego region is required. The role requires availability for non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as well as reliable personal transportation to travel to various performance venues throughout San Diego County.
