Position Summary:
To coordinate, implement, and plan surgical care to persons with breast health concerns in a timely and accurate manner.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
1. High School Diploma.
2. LPN or MA license/certification required in the state of TN.
Workplace Experience:
Coordination of Surgical Care Delivery for Urogynecology
Equipment and Skills Training:
Standard patient care equipment for services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of setting. Equipment: Network Computer System
Physical Environment:
An Oncology medical/surgical unit and outpatient clinic whose patient population ranges consists of adults > 18yrs of age.
Physical Effort:
1. Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
2. Able to stand/work for up to eight hours a day.
3. Ability to travel when needed to area Breast Cancer functions.
4. Able to lift with assistance up to 50 lbs.
Key Results:
1. Schedules surgical procedures accurately and appropriately in Veradigm and iQueue, ensuring all scheduling information is complete, accurate, and consistent with physician orders and facility requirements.
2. Provides comprehensive preoperative education to patients, including surgical instructions, pre-admission testing requirements, medication guidance, and expectations for the surgical process.
3. Coordinates required preoperative medical clearances, including evaluations from cardiology and other specialty providers, ensuring necessary documentation, recommendations, and approvals are obtained prior to surgery.
4. Communicates patient progress and pertinent clinical information to referring providers and other members of the healthcare team in a timely manner.
5. Organizes surgical appointments and coordinates the sequence of treatments, testing, and consultations to ensure the physician's treatment plan is carried out efficiently.
6. Provides providers to whom the patient is referred with timely data on patient progress.
7. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with key internal and external team members. Collaborates with clinical office and other staff to optimize patient experience.
8. Obtains and manages insurance prior authorizations for surgical procedures, ensuring all payer requirements are met before the scheduled date of surgery.
9. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information to facilitate accurate scheduling, authorization, and billing processes.
10. Maintains accurate and complete documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), including surgical scheduling information, patient communications, and authorization status.
11. Ensures physician orders, updated history and physical (H&P) documentation, and other required surgical records are completed and faxed to the scheduling department prior to the scheduled procedure date.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
