Job Description – Marine Structural Designer (Covington, LA – Office)
General Position Summary:
· Assist Engineers to design vessel structure, machinery, and outfitting details.
· Develop 2D/3D AutoCAD detail drawings.
· Assist in providing part details, nesting plans, and CNC coding for the burning alley.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Prepare or revise engineering drawings in accordance with the marked-up prints, sketches, or verbal instructions provided by senior staff.
· Draws structural and mechanical features of ships, docks, and other marine structures and equipment.
· Create multiple view drawings with appropriate details and section views, dimensions, and tolerances per department drafting standards.
· Create ShipConstructor models and assembly drawings.
· Track and manage incorporation of drawing technical and administrative comments from multiple sources.
· Perform surveys, ship checks, and analyze as-built drawings, redline mark ups and other correspondence to develop or revise drawings for various engineering disciplines.
· Track detailed comments and their resolution across multiple vessel classes to ensure all end products are consistent and in accordance with governing documents and specifications.
Desired Characteristics:
· Knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
· Experience with Excel and Microsoft Office.
· Applicant must be able to take detailed verbal direction and deliver accurate drawings.
· Strong attention to quality, organization skills, computing, and presentation skills.
· Strong work ethic and dedication.
· Must work well in a team dynamic.
· Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Required Education and/or Experience:
· Candidate must have 5 years minimum experience in marine design and technical drafting with high proficiency in the use of AutoCAD.
· Preferred Candidate should be proficient with ShipConstructor, Rhino and be capable of surface modeling.
· Candidate must have strong ability to multi-task and juggle multiple project deadlines concurrently.
· Must be a US citizen.
