Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, including flatbed, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other commercial vehicles with manual transmissions.
- Plan and execute route driving using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and ensure punctual arrivals.
- Load and unload freight efficiently while complying with manual handling safety procedures and hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Maintain compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, and hazardous materials handling protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report any issues promptly.
- Load, secure, and unload cargo such as freight, dangerous goods, or specialty items like refrigerated goods or heavy equipment using appropriate tools like forklifts when necessary.
- Document delivery logs accurately, including mileage records, delivery receipts, and compliance paperwork.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods.
- Skilled in operating various types of trucks including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions, flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Proficient in route planning using GPS navigation tools for efficient deliveries across multiple locations.
- Ability to handle logistics cargo handling tasks such as load & unload operations safely and effectively.
- Experience with driving different vehicle types like forklift-equipped trucks or dump trucks is a plus.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety and compliance; previous delivery driver experience preferred.
- Physical ability to perform manual handling tasks required for loading/unloading cargo; familiarity with freight management procedures is advantageous.
