Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable, high-integrity Numismatist & Precious Metal Specialist to join our busy showroom. In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor to customers looking to buy and sell rare coins, paper currency, and precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, and palladium). The ideal candidate possesses a strong customer-centric mindset, an eye for detail, and a passion for collecting and investing.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Consultation & Sales: Assist retail counter customers with purchasing rare coins, bullion bars, sovereign coins (e.g., American Eagles, Canadian Maples), paper money, and collecting supplies.
- Buying & Appraisals: Evaluate, authenticate, and accurately price gold, silver, and numismatic collections brought in by the public using established market data and spot prices.
- Showroom Merchandising: Maintain, organize, and securely display highly valuable inventory within our display cases.
- Education & Engagement: Provide helpful, pressure-free guidance to beginners and seasoned collectors alike, explaining premiums, spot prices, and grading basics.
- Transaction Processing: Safely handle point-of-sale (POS) cash, check, and card transactions with strict attention to accuracy and security protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: 1–2 years of retail sales, pawnbroking, or jewelry experience is preferred. Direct experience with rare coins, bullion, or precious metals is a major plus.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of numismatic grading standards and how spot prices dictate the precious metals market is highly desired (on-the-job training is provided for the right candidate).
- Education: Comfort with math and numbers is essential, specifically multiplication/division and skip-counting. Logical reasoning and a strategy mindset is essential to efficient performance.
- Integrity: Must demonstrate absolute honesty, accountability, and strong ethical standards due to the high-value nature of the inventory.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods on the showroom floor and comfortably lift up to 50–75 lbs (e.g., handling heavy coin bags or bulk silver bars/safes).
- Background: Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
