WCS Construction has an exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant to join our team! This position is responsible for independently managing the financial operations of multiple construction projects from inception through closeout, ensuring accurate job costing, billing, financial reporting, and budget management. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while partnering closely with Project Managers and Operations teams to support the successful delivery of construction projects. This is a sole contributing role.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Manage the financial lifecycle of multiple construction projects from project setup through closeout.

Monitor project budgets, costs, commitments, and expenditures to ensure financial accuracy and profitability.

Prepare and process owner billings, including AIA applications for payment.

Review, reconcile, and process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, change orders, and payment applications.

Track project costs, retainage, and other project-related financial activity.

Perform job cost analyses and reconcile project financial records.

Prepare monthly project financial reports, forecasts, and budget analyses.

Partner with Project Managers to review project performance, resolve billing discrepancies, and identify financial risks.

Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and accounting standards.

Support internal and external audits by preparing financial documentation and responding to audit requests.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiencies.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Five or more years of project accounting experience, preferably within the commercial construction industry.

Strong understanding of job costing, project financial reporting, and construction accounting principles.

Experience with AIA billing, subcontractor invoicing, retainage, and change order processing.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Experience with construction accounting software such as CMiC, Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, Procore, or similar ERP systems.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Operations teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification preferred.

Experience with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, lien waivers, certified payroll, subcontract compliance, and commercial construction projects is preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial reporting, are preferred.
