Service Technician – Blast Cleaning Equipment
Job Summary
The Service Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of blast cleaning equipment and related systems. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to travel to customer locations to perform field service. The technician will ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently while providing technical support and training to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and test blast cleaning equipment at customer facilities.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and perform repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on blast cleaning machines and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective actions.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
- Complete service reports, maintenance records, and expense documentation accurately and on time.
- Train customers on the safe operation and routine maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through professional communication and quality workmanship.
- Ensure compliance with all company and customer safety policies, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and parts departments to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory of replacement parts.
- Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and warranty repairs.
- Participate in emergency service calls as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance, field service, or manufacturing equipment repair preferred.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and service manuals.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Basic computer skills for completing reports and communicating with customers.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel up to 50–75% (or as required), including occasional overnight travel.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with blast cleaning, shot blasting, abrasive blasting, conveyors, dust collection systems, or industrial finishing equipment.
- PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) is a plus.
- Welding and fabrication experience is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
- Work at heights using appropriate fall protection.
- Work in manufacturing plants and industrial environments with exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Working Conditions
