Position Summary
The BESS Chiller Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing cooling systems used in Battery Energy Storage Systems. This role is critical to ensuring proper thermal management and reliable operation of lithium-ion battery systems. Candidates should have experience with commercial or industrial Chillers and HVAC systems. Candidates should be comfortable traveling to project sites nationwide.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, commission, and maintain BESS chiller and HVAC systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system issues.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on air-cooled and liquid-cooled chiller systems.
- Diagnose compressors, pumps, fans, refrigerant circuits, expansion valves, and related components.
- Verify proper operation through functional testing and performance measurements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, piping diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Work closely with commissioning engineers, OEM representatives, and project managers.
- Complete service reports, inspection documentation, and commissioning records.
- Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety procedures.
- Travel to project sites throughout the United States (up to 100% travel).
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC/chiller experience.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- Experience troubleshooting refrigeration systems and HVAC controls.
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
Preferred
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Experience with Vertiv, Daikin, Johnson Controls, Trane, Carrier, Stulz, or similar industrial cooling equipment.
- Experience with BACnet, Modbus, or PLC-based control systems.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Climb ladders and work around energized electrical equipment while following safety procedures.

Pay: $32.11 - $42.00 per hour
