We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Traffic Control Supervisor to oversee and coordinate traffic management operations at construction sites and roadway projects. This role is essential in ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians while maintaining smooth traffic flow around active work zones.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of heavy equipment operation, and a comprehensive understanding of construction site safety protocols. The Traffic Control Supervisor position offers an opportunity to lead a team of traffic control personnel, implement effective traffic management plans, and contribute to successful project execution.
Duties
- Supervise and coordinate traffic control activities to ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
- Oversee the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, signs, and flagging operations.
- Monitor work zones to ensure proper placement of signage and equipment, adjusting as necessary for changing conditions.
- Lead training sessions for traffic control staff on safety procedures, equipment operation, and best practices.
- Collaborate with construction managers, utility companies, and local authorities to plan and execute traffic management strategies.
- Ensure all heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, and dump trucks are operated safely by qualified personnel.
- Conduct regular inspections of work zones to identify hazards or non-compliance issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of daily activities, incidents, safety checks, and equipment usage.
- Enforce adherence to federal, state, and local regulations related to traffic control and construction safety.
- Assist in emergency response planning for incidents affecting traffic flow or worker safety.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction site management with a focus on traffic control operations.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, dump trucks, and paving machinery.
- Familiarity with utility locating techniques and the use of Caterpillar equipment brands.
- Ability to operate or supervise the operation of heavy machinery such as graders and loaders safely.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to train and motivate team members effectively.
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and regulations governing traffic management.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and reporting.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with multiple stakeholders across diverse teams.
Pay rate: $23 to $30 an hour, based on experience.
Schedule: Monday - Friday. 7 am to 5 pm.
