Position Summary
Aurora Parts is seeking a detail-oriented, results-driven Senior Engineering Draftsman to serve as a key technical resource for the organization, and for the product team in particular. This person is a curious, collaborative partner with a growth mindset and the drive to move beyond the status quo.
The Senior Engineering Draftsman works directly with other draftsmen as a lead partner in new product development, primarily for Aurora’s Pro-FIT™ line within the Structural Parts portfolio of commercial trailer products. The role centers on drafting and design, a strong command of materials and manufacturing methods, and close collaboration with suppliers to source new products.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Utilize appropriate metrology methods for creating models and drawings for parts & assemblies.
- Review and approve drawings, provide constructive feedback if needed.
- Request and receive quotes from suppliers that have appropriate capabilities.
- Review deviation requests by verifying the form, fit, and function of the products.
- Perform first article inspections and drive product quality expectations.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Investigate part quality issues, determine root cause, and implement improvements.
- Identify part testing opportunities and execute testing strategies.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers using a strong understanding of material, labor, and transportation costs.
- Maintain a continuous pool of qualified sources for quoting products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent technology-related field.
- 4+ years of experience in sourcing and product drafting, design, or development.
- 2+ years of experience with Solid Edge or similar/equivalent CAD package.
- 2+ years of experience with ERP systems and drawing management systems.
- Strong understanding of material applications, material types and strengths, after-treatments, and failure modes.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working efficiently and accurately.
- Preferred knowledge of the heavy-duty trailer and truck parts industry, including a general understanding of their products and functions.
