Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Sr. Director, Global Payroll is responsible for leading MoneyGram’s global payroll function, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations across 30+ countries in which MoneyGram operates. This leader will establish the global payroll strategy, transform and modernize the payroll function while driving operational excellence, process standardization, technology optimization, compliance, and continuous improvement.
This leader will partner closely with Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Tax, Legal, Internal Audit, and external payroll providers to build a scalable, best-in-class global payroll organization. The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership with a willingness to dive into operational details, solve complex problems, and drive meaningful change.
What You Will Do:
Global Payroll Leadership
- Lead, transform and modernize the end-to-end global payroll function across 30+ countries utilizing a hybrid delivery model of in-house payroll processing and third-party payroll partners.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing across all regions.
- Establish consistent global payroll standards while balancing local statutory requirements.
- Serve as the owner for payroll governance, controls, and operational excellence.
Payroll Operations & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate payroll processes globally.
- Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to reduce manual work, improve controls, and enhance employee experience.
- Drive root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions for recurring payroll issues.
Systems & Technology
- Lead any payroll technology initiatives, including optimization of Dayforce and third-party payroll providers.
- Partner with HRIS to improve integration, data quality, reporting, and automation.
- Leverage technology to improve efficiency, controls, employee self-service, and payroll accuracy.
Compliance, Risk & Controls
- Ensure compliance with global payroll regulations, tax requirements, wage and hour laws, and statutory reporting obligations.
- Own the payroll control environment, including compliance with SOX requirements and internal audit standards.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve payroll policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Partner with Internal Audit and external auditors during audits and compliance reviews.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build, develop, and inspire a high-performing global payroll organization.
- Assess organizational capabilities and lead team restructuring to improve effectiveness, scalability, and accountability.
- Establish clear performance expectations while coaching and developing the team.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience, including global payroll responsibility across multiple countries.
- Proven experience leading payroll organizations in multinational companies.
- Deep expertise implementing and optimizing Dayforce Payroll or similar global HCM/payroll platforms.
- Track record of leading process improvement, automation, and payroll transformation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of global payroll compliance, tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.
- Strategic thinker who can roll up their sleeves to solve operational challenges.
- Experience restructuring organizations and building high-performing payroll teams.
- Experience managing third-party payroll providers and global vendor relationships.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Highly collaborative with outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
- Data-driven decision maker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to create clarity, simplify complexity, and execute with urgency.
