New Heights Academy is seeking a collaborative and compassionate English/History Co-Teacher to provide academic and instructional support in high school English Language Arts and History classrooms. The co-teacher will work closely with general education teachers to ensure students with diverse learning needs can fully access the curriculum and develop critical reading, writing, and analytical skills across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-plan and co-deliver daily instruction alongside general education teachers in ELA and Social Studies
- Support differentiation of content, process, and product to meet diverse learning needs
- Implement IEP accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities
- Lead small group instruction and targeted interventions as needed
- Monitor student progress and maintain data records in collaboration with case managers
- Communicate regularly with families and student support teams
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom culture rooted in high expectations and respect
- Attend IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and staff professional development sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7–12) or working toward certification
- Co-teaching, ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching), or push-in support experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Experience with inclusive teaching practices, UDL, or restorative classroom management
- Passion for literacy, history, and culturally responsive education
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
