Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, observe changes in condition, and document patient responses accurately to ensure optimal care.
- Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA regulations to maintain safety and compliance.
- Support patients with meal preparation, feeding assistance, and nutritional needs while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to individuals with dementia, Alzheimer’s, autism, or other neurodevelopmental disorders to enhance their well-being.
- Assist with patient transfers using proper patient transfer methods and ensure safe manual handling during movement.
- Maintain detailed records of patient observations, medication administration, and care activities in compliance with healthcare standards such as HIPAA and hospice guidelines.
- Support patients during emergencies by performing first aid or CPR when necessary.
- Facilitate community outings or personal transportation assistance to promote social engagement and independence.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and follow individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs.
Experience
- Prior experience working in group homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home health environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with patient observation, monitoring vital signs, medication administration, and following care plans.
- Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care strategies, and hospice or palliative care practices.
- Familiarity with patient transfer equipment such as Hoyer lifts and proper manual handling techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders including autism is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and healthcare teams while providing compassionate personal care assistance.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional certifications in nursing or home health are a plus.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physically demanding tasks required for caregiving roles.
