Office Assistant
First Lutheran Church, Minot ND
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Status: Part time; 24-27 hours
FLSA: Non-exempt
Pay: $16.00-$20.00/hour, based on experience
Job Summary
Two Office Assistants collaborate with each other to contribute to the mission and ministry of the congregation by assisting with congregational communication and record keeping, and the smooth operation of the church office. Hours are typically 9am-3pm Monday-Thursday, and Fridays 9-12.
Essential Functions:
- Receive and respond to phone calls and visitors to the office
- Tend to regular clerical duties, such as sorting mail, monitoring office equipment and supplies, and preparing correspondence for mailing
- Maintain congregational calendar and coordinate facilities usage
- Prepare weekly worship materials, including bulletins, announcements and Powerpoint projections
- Facilitate congregational communication, including creation of weekly e-news and monthly newsletters, as well as updates to church website
- Prepare certificates and documents related to baptisms, marriage, funerals, etc.
- Update and maintain the electronic membership database
- Provide administrative and clerical support to members of staff
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Other Responsibilities:
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
- Communicate personal and professional needs to the lead pastor or the personnel committee
- Access relevant training to become and remain knowledgeable on needed technology, such as the congregational database
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred
- Experience in administrative support preferred
- Working knowledge of e-mail and Microsoft Office software
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time working on a computer
- Ability to answer phone calls and interact with the general public
- Minimal lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
