This position requires extensive experience with payroll processing, invoice management, accounting procedures, subcontractor payments, and financial recordkeeping. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, accurate, trustworthy, and capable of independently managing sensitive financial information and multiple deadlines.
Experience working in the construction industry and handling subcontractor documentation is strongly preferred. Spanish-speaking candidates are also preferred due to regular communication with employees and subcontractors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Process weekly or biweekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Review employee hours, pay rates, deductions, reimbursements, and payroll records.
- Prepare and maintain certified payroll documentation when required.
- Receive, review, code, and process vendor and subcontractor invoices.
- Verify invoices against contracts, purchase orders, approved change orders, and completed work.
- Prepare payments to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Confirm that subcontractors have submitted all required documentation before payment, including invoices, lien waivers, certificates of insurance, W-9 forms, and other compliance documents.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable and payment records.
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.
- Track outstanding invoices, payment deadlines, retainage, and subcontractor balances.
- Assist with accounts receivable, customer invoicing, and payment tracking.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
- Support monthly financial reporting and account reconciliation.
- Communicate professionally with employees, subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and company leadership.
- Protect confidential payroll, employee, company, and financial information.
- Assist management with additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in payroll, accounting, accounts payable, invoicing, or a related financial position.
- Demonstrated experience processing payments to subcontractors and vendors.
- Strong understanding of invoice review, payment documentation, and financial recordkeeping.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and payment schedules.
- Ability to work independently and follow established company procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting or payroll software.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally and responsibly.
- Must be able to work full-time from our Hardeeville, South Carolina office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous accounting or payroll experience with a general contractor, subcontractor, or construction company.
- Experience with certified payroll, subcontractor compliance, lien waivers, retainage, certificates of insurance, and construction pay applications.
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are strongly preferred but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
- One week of paid vacation after completing the first year of employment.
- Two weeks of paid vacation after completing two years of employment.

Work Location and Schedule
- This is a full-time, in-office position located at the Leonex Construction Group, Inc. office in Hardeeville, South Carolina. This is not a remote position.
