Job Description – Security Officer/Maintenance

Position Summary
The Security Officer is a key member of the security team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Dakota Economic Development Corporation’s premises, personnel, and assets. This role demands vigilance, integrity, and professional conduct while interacting with employees, visitors, and contractors. The ideal candidate will possess strong observational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to security and maintenance, ensuring a safe environment for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the premises, monitor surveillance systems, and ensure all security equipment is functioning effectively.
- Regulate entrance/access to the building; verify identification and authorize entry of individuals to prevent unauthorized access.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations; provide assistance as needed, including first aid and evacuation procedures.
- Document all incidents, inspections, and patrol observations in detailed reports, maintaining accurate logs of activities and irregularities.
- Collaborate in emergency management planning and act swiftly during fire incidents, medical emergencies, or other emergencies.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as necessary; communicate effectively with team members and management.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with safety standards and report any hazards or breaches.
- Oversee and conduct regular inspections of the building and surrounding grounds to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance.
- Assist in tracking vehicle maintenance schedules and conducting routine checks on vehicles used for security purposes.
- Monitor and coordinate the maintenance of security equipment, ensuring all tools and systems are operational and well maintained.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of company events, ensuring that spaces are prepared and secured.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional security training or certification is a plus.
- Experience: Proven experience as a Security Officer or relevant position in a corporate environment preferred.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with employees, visitors, and contractors effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Strong observational and problem-solving skills to identify and address security concerns promptly.
- Dependability: Demonstrated punctuality and reliability; ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to remain on feet for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting patrols and monitoring premises.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Prolonged periods of communication and active listening during interactions.
Work Environment
The work is performed in a variety of settings, including outdoor areas and indoor facilities, with moderate noise levels and a dynamic atmosphere.
