Position Summary
The Solar Project Manager is responsible for managing the scheduling, coordination, and execution of residential solar installation projects from permitting through Permission to Operate (PTO). This role works closely with operations, field teams, subcontractors, and customers to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and on schedule while maintaining a high standard of customer service and company reputation.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, solutions-driven, and capable of balancing logistics coordination with exceptional customer communication.
Key Responsibilities
Project Scheduling & Coordination
- Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure permits and net metering applications are submitted, processed, and received on time.
- Identify and schedule special tasks required for project approval, including permit pickups, site inspections, and roof inspections.
- Monitor project timelines, proactively identify potential delays, and implement corrective actions to maintain installation schedules.
- Continuously review project pipelines to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
- Set preliminary installation dates during the permitting phase.
- Finalize installation schedules and assign crews based on capabilities, availability, and efficiency optimization.
- Maintain a pipeline of “on-deck” projects to allow for quick pivots due to weather, cancellations, or unexpected delays.
- Respond to unforeseen challenges (weather delays, crew issues, vehicle breakdowns) and adjust schedules and resources accordingly in coordination with the Field Foreman.
Operational & Field Support
- Review approved project plans to ensure installation readiness.
- Submit VA811 tickets to mark underground utility lines and coordinate private utility locators when required.
- Coordinate with the Operations team to order materials and ensure delivery prior to installation.
- Ensure installation teams have necessary materials, equipment, and documentation properly entered into project management software.
- Work closely with the Field Foreman to confirm project details such as funding methods, primary equipment, adders, and site-specific requirements.
- Manage subcontractor relationships, including reviewing pricing and ensuring proper scope communication.
- Facilitate scheduling and successful completion of permit inspections following installation.
Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Provide detailed reports on: project timelines and forecasts, installation progress and volume, material usage and forecasting, and scheduling efficiency and capacity planning
- Track project milestones to ensure accurate forecasting and workload management.
Customer Experience & Company Reputation
- Promote and protect a positive company reputation through professional and proactive communication.
- Provide regular project status updates to homeowners throughout the installation process.
- Walk homeowners through system startup.
- Educate clients on Solar Renewable Energy Credit opportunities.
- Gather client feedback on their experience.
- Communicate with clients at key milestones to encourage online reviews and participation in referral programs.
- Ensure customer concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in project coordination, construction scheduling, solar operations, or related field.
- Strong understanding of permitting processes, inspections, and utility interconnection (preferred).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with project management or CRM software.
- Knowledge of residential solar installation processes is a plus.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
