About us
Budinger & Associates assists clients in the planning and execution of successful projects. We provide environmental and geotechnical engineering, special inspection, materials testing, geotechnical construction, and subsurface exploration. We have served the greater Inland Northwest Region since 1976.
About the position
Budinger is an Inland NW leader in specialty geotechnical construction, including earth retention systems, deep foundations, ground improvement, and geotechnical grouting. The Geotechnical Construction Manager is critical in bridging the gap between engineering design and field execution. In this role, you will be responsible for client relationships, competitive bidding, preparing work plans, leading specialized field crews, optimizing logistics, and completing the work in conformance with the project plan and specifications. You will be supported by Budinger staff, including operations manager, geotechnical engineers & geologists, accountants, and Principals working together to ensure that our projects are executed safely, profitably, and to high-quality standards. This position requires a dynamic leader who thrives in a fast-paced field environment, communicates effectively with diverse engineering teams, and possesses technical knowledge of specialized geotechnical construction methods and equipment.
Duties include:
· Project Supervision: Manage and oversee the execution of specialized geotechnical construction projects, including foundation support, ground stabilization, and subsurface remediation.
· Project Estimation: Estimating project costs, managing the schedule, and manpower according to project specifications.
· Team Leadership: Supervise and provide daily technical direction to field crews, drillers, operators, and exploration technicians within the department.
· Field Visits: Be willing to visit projects in the field and provide directions to the crew members according to project needs and specifications.
· Engineering Collaboration: Coordinate directly with engineers and clients to ensure project designs—such as micropiles, helical piles, shoring elements (soil nails, tiebacks), and grouting—are built strictly to specifications.
· Safety & Compliance: Enforce rigorous safety protocols on construction sites, maintaining strict alignment with federal, state, and local safety regulations for safety-sensitive operations.
· Logistics & QA/QC: Manage daily operational logs, schedule equipment utilization, track project budgets, and perform quality control checks to resolve site deficiencies promptly.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
· Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction management, with a clear focus on geotechnical construction techniques (e.g., deep foundations, ground improvements, shoring installations). Field experience in geotechnical construction is a must as well.
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related technical field preferred. A Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license is preferred. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
· Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with heavy drilling machinery, subsurface earth behaviors, and the ability to interpret complex structural blueprints and geotechnical reports.
· Estimating: Experience with construction cost estimating and engineering/design.
· Certifications: Valid Driver's License and clean driving record are required; standard industry safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER, PMP) are highly desirable.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a standard medical physical and functional lift test to adapt to demanding outdoor construction environments.
