About Us
Shanks Heating and Cooling serves the Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line — residential and commercial new construction, changeouts, and service.
We have over 900 five-star reviews on Google. That didn't happen by accident. We're not looking to fill a seat — we're looking for someone whose work and attitude add to that reputation.
Pay
$25 – $40 per hour, plus quarterly bonuses. Where you land in that range is based on merit, experience, and competency — what you can actually do in the field, not just years on a resume. If you're good, you'll be paid like it.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be running new construction HVAC installs from rough-in to trim — residential and light commercial.
- Hanging and installing metal duct work — trunk lines, branches, boots, registers
- Setting and connecting furnaces, air handlers, condensers, coils, and rooftop units
- Running line sets, flue/venting, condensate, and gas piping
- Reading and working off blueprints and mechanical plans
- Coordinating with GCs, framers, electricians, and plumbers to keep the job moving
- Rough-in, trim-out, and startup — seeing the job all the way through
- Keeping the job site clean and the work up to code and inspection-ready
What You Actually Need
- Real HVAC install experience — you've done this work, not just watched it
- You can hang ductwork. This is the one thing we can't work around. Trunk line, branches, boots, registers — hung straight, sealed, and supported right
- Comfortable with standard install and sheet metal hand tools
- Can read blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Professional on the job site — with homeowners, builders, and other trades
- Reliable, shows up on time, and works well with a crew
- EPA 608 certification (or willing to get it)
Nice to Have — Not Required
If you can fabricate in the field — transitions, offsets, plenums, drops — that's a big deal to us and it will show up in your pay. But if you're a solid installer who hasn't done much fab work, apply anyway. We'd rather teach metal skills to a good installer with the right attitude than pass on the right person.
- Field sheet metal fabrication
- Commercial rooftop unit (RTU) experience
- Spiral duct and heavy-gauge work
- Ability to lead a crew or run your own jobs
- OSHA 10 or 30
Tools
We provide the big stuff — brakes, shears, power tools, specialty equipment, and gauges. You bring your own personal hand tools and keep them in working order.
