POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Auditor/Trainer is an individual-contributor role responsible for conducting formal, structured compliance audits across Summit Building Services' client sites and converting audit findings into corrective action and targeted training.
This role independently determines audit pass/fail status, evaluates compliance against contract and certification standards, and recommends escalation and remediation — exercising the discretion and independent judgment that distinguishes this role from a fixed-checklist inspection function. The ideal candidate brings hands-on janitorial/QA or compliance auditing experience, working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and California safety requirements, and the bilingual communication skills to work effectively with frontline staff across the portfolio.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance Auditing
- Conduct formal, structured compliance audits at client sites, independently determining findings and pass/fail status against contract, certification, and regulatory standards.
- Audit site-level implementation of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), SB 553 Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) execution, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) records, and injury/illness reporting timelines.
- Evaluate audit results against certification-level standards (e.g., CIMS-GB) and flag findings with contract-level consequences.
- Exercise independent judgment in escalation decisions, determining which findings require immediate corrective action versus standard follow-up.
Corrective Action
- Convert audit findings into corrective action plans, assigning owners and due dates.
- Track corrective action plans through to closure, verifying remediation was completed and effective.
Training Delivery
- Design and deliver targeted training in direct response to audit findings, addressing root causes of non-compliance.
- Support train-the-trainer initiatives, building the capability of site-level trainers to sustain compliance between formal audits.
- Support curriculum validation, ensuring training content remains aligned with current audit standards and regulatory requirements.
Reporting
- Produce standalone, client-facing audit reports, distinct from routine inspection logs.
Escalation Authority
- Recommend account-level escalation: including audit frequency changes, executive briefings, and contract risk flags for approval.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate audit, training, and corrective action documentation in support of certification and contract compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 4+ years of experience in janitorial/quality assurance or compliance auditing, California experience required.
- Experience conducting formal audits with certification- or contractual-level consequences (CIMS, APPA, ISSA, ISO, or equivalent).
- CIMS-GB Coordinator certification, or ISO internal-auditor training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Cal/OSHA 30-Hour certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Working knowledge of IIPP, SB 553 WVPP, LOTO, and injury/illness reporting requirements.
- Valid CA driver's license; ability to travel frequently to multiple sites within territory.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver training and communicate findings to site staff, supervisors, and clients.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage audit and training schedules across multiple sites.
Preferred
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
- Prior experience in the janitorial, commercial cleaning, or facilities services industry.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base pay: $72,000–$96,000/yr, by tier and region.
Incentive component: 2–5% of base pay tied to audit accuracy/defensibility and on-time corrective-action closure.
Mileage reimbursement for business use of personal vehicle.
Certification support: reimbursement for CIMS-GB, Cal/OSHA 30-Hour, or ISO internal-auditor training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to travel regularly between client sites throughout the Bay Area service area.
- Ability to walk large commercial facilities, including stairways, mechanical rooms, warehouses, and outdoor areas.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, driving, and conducting on-site evaluations.
Working Conditions
- Combination of on-site audits and desk-based documentation, reporting, and training preparation.
- Site visits may require use of PPE and exposure to typical janitorial/facilities work environments, including cleaning products and equipment.
- Requires flexible hours, including swing shift (evening) site visits, to audit and train crews during their actual working hours.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, exempt position. As an exempt employee under California's Administrative Exemption, this role is not eligible for overtime pay under federal or California law. The Quality Auditor/Trainer is expected to manage their schedule in alignment with audit and training commitments across the portfolio. Because most janitorial crews work evenings, this role requires regular swing shift hours in addition to daytime hours, so audits and training can take place while crews are on-site.

If a background check is required, you will be notified and will receive a copy of the background check report and a summary of your rights under California Civil Code Section 1786.22 before any adverse employment decision is made.
