Summary: The Director of OCIA is responsible for effective planning, coordination and delivery of efforts to welcome those desiring to become Catholic into the Catholic faith through accompaniment and formation. The Director will be the main point of contact for those exploring the Catholic Faith, establishing a relationship with them and coordinating the formation experience required to develop their faith and prepare them to make a decision to enter the Church.
This person of faith is both a pastoral minister and a professional who has an active faith and translates the faith and action for others by promoting the Gospel and growth in holiness through the creation of engaging programs and approaches to draw parishioners into a relationship with Christ and to share their faith with others.
Essential Functions:
- Formation and Catechesis: plan and conduct approximately 25 classes, 1.5 hours in length. Use the Catechism of the Catholic Church as the primary guide. Use approved video series commonly used throughout the diocese.
- Collaboration: Meet with Pastor to discuss and schedule the Rite of Entrance into the Catechumenate. Coordinate and work with the Office of Worship regarding the Rite of Election. Assist pastor in organizing the Scrutinies held during Lent. Coordinate and attend the Easter Vigil practice and Mass (both on same day)
- Accompaniment: Respond to Inquiries and establish a relationship with inquirers and guide toward a prayerful decision on the right timing to engage in formation. Guide inquirers and candidates in their faith journey.
Education and Experience:
Practicing Catholic in good standing
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Able to honor and maintain confidentiality
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to talk or hear.
Able to move about the work environment
Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
