Production Control & Materials Manager
Location: Mesa, AZ
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Join a Growing Precision Sheet Metal Manufacturing Team
AEI Fabrication is seeking an experienced Production Control & Materials Manager to become a key member of our leadership team.
This is not a desk job. We are looking for a hands-on leader who enjoys being on the production floor, solving problems, coordinating production, and ensuring every job is fully prepared before it reaches manufacturing.
If you're organized, thrive in a fast-paced custom manufacturing environment, and aren't afraid to hold people accountable while helping them improve, we'd like to talk with you.
This is a full-time hourly position. Overtime will be required as business needs dictate, and occasional weekend work may be necessary to support customer commitments and production schedules.
What You'll Do
As our Production Control & Materials Manager, you will own the production readiness process from released work order through completion by:
- Planning and maintaining daily and weekly production schedules.
- Coordinating production priorities with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Shipping, and Production.
- Personally pulling and kitting production jobs to ensure all required materials, hardware, and documentation are complete before release.
- Verifying material availability and resolving shortages before production begins.
- Monitoring production progress and adjusting priorities as needed.
- Maintaining inventory accuracy and controlling material movement through our ERP system.
- Investigating inventory discrepancies and documenting additional material issued to production.
- Walking the production floor daily to identify and resolve issues before they impact delivery.
- Coaching employees on proper material handling and production procedures.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase accountability.
Leadership Matters
We're looking for someone who leads with confidence, professionalism, and respect.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold employees accountable while coaching them to improve.
- Build trust through fairness and consistency.
- Address issues directly rather than allowing problems to continue.
- Encourage employees to report mistakes so they can be corrected—not hidden.
- Lead by example and earn the respect of the production team.
Authority
This position reports directly to the Chief Officer (CO) and is empowered to stop the release of any work order that is not production-ready due to:
- Missing materials
- Incomplete engineering documentation
- Inventory discrepancies
- Incomplete job kits
- Quality concerns
We believe it's far better to prevent problems than fix them after production has started.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Production Control, Production Planning, Materials Management, Manufacturing Operations, or a related leadership role.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication, machining, or custom manufacturing is required.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control and production scheduling.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems (Global Shop, Epicor, JobBOSS, E2, or similar).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple departments.
- Ability to walk the production floor throughout the workday and lift up to 75 pounds.
Why Join AEI?
At AEI, you'll have the opportunity to make a measurable impact on our operations. This role is a key leadership position with the authority to improve production flow, strengthen inventory accuracy, reduce waste, and help drive operational excellence.
If you're looking for a position where your experience, leadership, and decision-making skills truly matter, we'd love to hear from you.
