The Lathe Machinist is responsible for operating manual and/or CNC lathes to produce precision metal parts according to specifications. This role involves interpreting blueprints, setting up machines, monitoring production, and ensuring finished products meet quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set up, adjust, and operate lathe machines (manual and/or CNC) to perform machining operations such as turning, drilling, boring, threading, and facing
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for materials being machined
- Measure finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges) to ensure compliance with specifications
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machine faults
- Inspect workpieces to detect defects and ensure quality standards are met
- Maintain a neat, clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with safety procedures
- Record production data and report issues or deviations to supervisor
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes and efficiency
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in machining preferred
- Proven experience operating lathe machines (manual and/or CNC)
- Strong understanding of machining principles, metal properties, and tooling
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Proficiency with measuring and inspection tools
- Basic math and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions

Pay: $30.00 - $37.00 per hour
