Position: Supported Living Services (SLS) Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
Overview:
The SLS Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a key role in assisting individuals with disabilities to lead self-directed lives and actively participate in their communities. As a part-time position, the hours for this role will vary based on the needs of the individual clients and their families, and are subject to change. The SLS DSP will provide support in various settings, including the home, workplace, school, church, and community spaces. This role requires proactive communication with program coordinators and staff to determine and arrange the schedule. There is no guarantee of a fixed number of hours, and it is the responsibility of the DSP to manage their own schedule by coordinating with staff as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in Daily Living Activities:
Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing), meal preparation, medication reminders, and household tasks. Support individuals in maintaining independence while encouraging skill development in areas such as cleaning, cooking, and personal hygiene.
Assist individuals in participating in community activities, including work, volunteering, social events, and recreational activities. Help clients build connections and integrate into their communities by facilitating access to resources and opportunities based on their preferences.
Ensure individuals’ health and safety by assisting with medical needs and following prescribed care plans. This may include administering medication, monitoring physical and emotional health, and documenting any health-related concerns. Provide support in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
Safely transport individuals to appointments, activities, and other locations. Follow all traffic laws and safety guidelines when driving. Assist individuals in entering and exiting vehicles, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Individualized Plan Implementation:
Participate in the creation and implementation of each individual’s care plan. Assist in setting and achieving goals based on their needs and preferences. Monitor and document progress toward these goals, and communicate changes with the interdisciplinary team as needed.
Act as an advocate for the individuals under your care by ensuring their needs, desires, and goals are communicated effectively. Respect each individual’s rights and choices and ensure their participation in decision-making.
- Emergency Response and Safety:
Be prepared to respond in emergency situations, including medical emergencies or behavior crises. Follow safety protocols, including emergency plans, and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
- Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of services provided, including health information, daily activities, and progress notes. Review and complete necessary documentation at the beginning and end of each shift. Ensure communication with staff and supervisors is timely and clear.
Work collaboratively with program managers, other support staff, and medical professionals to ensure individuals’ needs are being met. Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in healthcare, human services, or a nursing home setting is preferred.
- Licensing and Background:
- Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license and meet company standards for motor vehicle and criminal background checks.
- Must have verified legal status to work in the United States.
- Computer Skills:
- Basic computer proficiency required for documentation and communication purposes.
- Physical Requirements:
- The position involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, and assisting with physical transfers of individuals (e.g., assisting in and out of vehicles, pushing wheelchairs).
- Ability to work in various environments, including indoors, outdoors, and in vehicles. Must be able to work in changing conditions, such as varying temperatures, humidity, and allergens.
Additional Requirements:
- Attendance and Punctuality:
- Report to work on time and as scheduled. Any time-off requests must be approved in advance.
- Keep accurate records of work hours and attend all mandatory meetings or training sessions.
- Behavioral Expectations:
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the MVDS Employee Handbook.
- Report any job-related injuries to your supervisor within 24 hours of occurrence.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- This role requires frequent physical activity such as lifting, transferring, carrying, and assisting with personal care.
- The ability to work in environments that could include temperature fluctuations, noise, allergens, and other environmental factors is essential.
- The DSP must be prepared to assist individuals with disabilities in areas such as entering and exiting vehicles, personal hygiene, cooking, and cleaning.
