VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Veterinary Assistants perform kennel duties, including husbandry and sanitation work, as well as provide critical care of hospitalized patients under direct supervision of our RVT's and Veterinarians. These duties ensure hospital hygiene, patient comfort, and husbandry, and are crucial part of the technician team. Team members work 40 hours per week utilizing 10 hour shifts 4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care Assistance: Aid in the care and monitoring emergency patients, including feeding, walking, and maintaining cleanliness in the patient areas.
-Assist with Procedures: Support Veterininarians and RVT's during medical procedures, ensuring a smooth workflow and maintaing a sterile envioronment.
-Client Interaction: Provide empathetic support to pet owners, relay information about treatment plans, and assist in addressing client concerns.
-Inventory Management: Assist in managing and restocking medical supplies, ensuring the hospital is well-equipped for emergency cases.
-Collaboration: Work closely with the veterinary team, including RVT's and veterinarians, to facilitate effective communication and streamline patient care.
Previous Veterinary Experience Required
Veterinary assistants must have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in surgery, and perform dental cleaning procedures. Veterinary assistants must also deliver compassionate nursing care.
Qualifications
-Previous experienced in the clinical veterinary field is preferred.
-Display a genuine love for animals and a strong commitment to their well-being.
-Ability collaborate effectively in a fast paced and challenging environment.
-Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate Cleary with both the veterinary team and pet owners.
-Comfortable handling the unpredictability of emergency situations and willing to learn and adapt as needed.
-Basic mathematics proficiency required (addition/subtraction/mutiplication /division)
-Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply
Essential Functions
Must have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, and be able to lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, handle repetitive up-and-down or back-and-forth motions, and work while bending. Assist in lifting patients more than 50 pounds. Occasionally handle animals weighing over 150 pounds with assistance. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
