Semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant. Work is performed in accordance with established practices and procedures. Duties require the exercise of independent judgement. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an administrative superior who reviews work for conformance with established standards and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience in the operation or maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment similar to that utilized in treatment plant operations,
OR
-
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of a successfully passed the ‘C’ level examination for Water/Wastewater Treatment Operators License,
OR
-
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience working in water chemistry, water sampling, or working with industrial chemicals in the treatment of water/wastewater.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
The selected candidate for this position MUST:

Agree to take and pass State examination for a Class C Water or Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License within 18 months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:

College-level courses in an environmental/chemical discipline,
-
Successful completion or current enrollment in an approved prerequisite Water/Wastewater Plant Operator course recognized by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) licensing office (must specify on application),
- FDEP Water/Wastewater Operator’s License Class A, B, or C, and
-
Experience using computer software.
