About Archbishop Riordan High School
Archbishop Riordan High School is an urban Catholic high school, owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco and conducted by the Society of Mary, the Marianists, who are assisted by lay men and women. ARHS prepares young men and women of San Francisco, the surrounding communities and various countries from around the world for leadership through its inclusive college preparatory curriculum. ARHS fosters development in faith, character, academics, the arts and athletics, in a diverse and inclusive family environment.
Position: Band Teacher and Director
The Visual and Performing Arts Department at Archbishop Riordan High School has an opening for a full-time band teacher. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and student-centered music educator to lead and grow Riordan's instrumental music program. The Band Director teaches concert and instrumental music courses with opportunity for directing performances, competitions, and the school's marching band. The ideal candidate is passionate about developing musicianship, fostering school spirit, and creating an inclusive environment where students of all ability levels can thrive.
Responsibilities
● Teaching band at grade levels 9-12
● Designing a spiral curriculum with clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicating those objectives to students
● Meeting the needs of a wide range of students by providing extra support or varying assignments
● Collaborating with department members and administrators in the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement
● Attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence, plus participate in co-curricular activities
● Commitment to Riordan’s mission and Marianist values
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree or higher in a music related field
● At least one year of high school teaching experience preferred
● Teaching credential preferred
● Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, students and staff
● Understanding of the mission and values of Archbishop Riordan High School and the Archdiocese of San Francisco
Compensation/FLSA
Full-time, exempt. Salary is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
