Job Summary
- Children's House Guide, Lead Teacher, or Assistant Teacher - ages 3 to 6, single ratio classroom, 8:1 to 10:1 ratio
- Toddler Community Assistant Teacher - ages 18 months to 3, potty training, 6:1 to 7:1 ratio
Potential for floater or substitute positions for those looking to get their foot in the door and arrange availability around school schedule if willing to maintain MERIT certifications.
These roles ensure a nurturing and structured environment for children, upholds Montessori principles, and complies with Washington State DCYF (Department of Children, Youth and Families) requirements.
Classroom Support
- Prepare and maintain a Montessori-prepared classroom environment.
- Support daily activities, ensuring they align with Montessori educational principles.
- Encourage independent learning and hands-on engagement through carefully prepared materials.
- Observe and document children's progress and communicate effectively
- Flexibility in scheduling based on enrollment and staffing needs.
- Supervise and assist with diapering/toilet training as deemed necessary.
Child Supervision & Development
- Assist in guiding children’s social, emotional, and academic development.
- Model and reinforce positive behavior and conflict resolution strategies.
- Support individualized learning and help children develop essential life skills.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to Washington State DCYF licensing regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, assessments, and health protocols.
- Follow all school safety policies and procedures, including emergency preparedness.
Communication & Teamwork
- Collaborate with staff to ensure a harmonious and productive classroom environment.
- Engage with parents and families to provide updates and support a strong school-community relationship.
- Understanding of Montessori principles and classroom structure.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to effectively supervise and support children in a structured learning environment.
- Experience working with children with special needs or in early intervention programs is highly desirable.
- A genuine love for teaching and nurturing young minds.
Education
- Higher education in relate field preferred
- Certification or training in Montessori pedagogy is preferred;
- Experience and familiarity with the Montessori environment ages 0-3 or -3-6 required
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training programs.
State of Washington – Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have completed a high school education or equivalent.
- Completion of Washington State STARS (State Training and Accreditation for Childcare Providers) training and registry system requirements.
- A clear background check as required by Washington State law.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Food handling preparation license.
