Environmental Scientist/Fish Biologist
Introduction:
Point Environmental LLC is a small consulting firm based in Oregon City which helps its clients maintain compliance with environmental regulations in the construction and resource management industries throughout Oregon and Washington. The company is looking for a full-time Environmental Scientist/Fish Biologist (Bio) to serve primarily in our southern service area. The southern service area extends from Oregon City to Eugene, and the company would prefer to hire an individual who currently resides between Oregon City and Salem.
The Bio will be assigned equipment, a company vehicle, and will be expected to report to jobsites or the Oregon City office directly from their residence the majority of the time. Therefore, their residence should be in the southern service area but within comfortable commuting distance of the Oregon City office at 914 Molalla Ave, Oregon City, OR 97045.
The Bio’s primary responsibilities will involve providing environmental permit compliance and construction site erosion and sediment control inspection. The Bio’s other duties will include various environmental compliance tasks, particularly assisting with fish rescue/salvage operations during the summer in-water work period, ESA species compliance, CWA compliance, and NEPA compliance.
The Bio is expected to work normal hours from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, but within that time, will be largely managing their own schedule which varies depending on weather conditions and project activities. Therefore, the individual needs to be self-motivated and highly dependable.
Responsibilities include:
· Travel to multiple sites in Oregon, Washington, and occasionally Idaho
· Construction site inspection
· Fish salvage
· Remote stream survey
· Log entries using written and digital formats
· Thorough photo documentation
· Record keeping
· Report writing
· Communication with superintendents, foreman, and clients
· Spending long periods of time on your feet walking in inclement weather and rough terrain
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in fish biology, environmental science, or similar field
· At least one (1) of the following Oregon DEQ acceptable erosion and sediment control inspection certifications:
o Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
o Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ)
o Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL)
o Rogue Valley Sewer Services Erosion and Sediment Control Certification
· Minimum 1 year experience (Please Include a List of Projects)
· Valid driver’s license
· Need to provide own weather appropriate clothing including above the ankle leather work boots. Point Environmental will provide the necessary safety PPE.
· Must currently have reliable transportation.
· A motivated and organized individual with honesty, integrity, who wants to work, and who is willing to learn and share their individuality and ideas to better the company.
· Construction casual attire and appearance, e.g. jeans or kakis with collard shirt or Point Environmental T-shirt.
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Job Preferences:
· Preference will be given to those individuals with an educational emphasis and additional work experience in fish biology, electrofishing, forestry, civil construction, QGIS, etc.
Compensation:
The Bio will be an “at will” employee who will receive an hourly compensation commensurate with experience.
