POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Inspector I to join our aerospace manufacturing team on a full-time basis. This position is responsible for performing dimensional and visual inspections of composite and machined aerospace components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience conducting First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9100 and supporting conformity inspections within an AS9100-compliant Quality Management System.
POSITION DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9100 requirements to verify dimensional and process compliance on new or revised parts.
- Use calibrated measuring equipment, including micrometers and go/no-go gauges, to conduct precise dimensional inspections and compare findings against 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Generate and complete FAI reports in Microsoft Excel.
- Conduct in-process and final inspections of composite components and assemblies.
- Review material certifications, cure logs, and NDI reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain inspection tools and equipment in clean, organized, and calibrated condition.
- Support internal quality audits and continuous improvement efforts aligned with AS9100 standards.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.
- Familiarity with quality inspection documentation and processes.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify dimensional, visual, and documentation discrepancies.
- Clear and concise written documentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality inspection tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum three years of quality inspection experience in aerospace, defense, medical manufacturing, or a similar regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience performing First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9100 requirements.
- Technical certificate or associate degree in a related field.
- One or more relevant professional certifications, such as Certified Quality Inspector, Certified Quality Technician, Certified Calibration Technician, Lean Certification, or similar credentials.
- Manufacturing, government contracting, aviation, and/or defense industry experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires close visual acuity to inspect parts, identify defects, read engineering drawings, review documentation, and use computer screens.
- Requires frequent use of hands and fingers to operate precision measuring equipment, inspection tools, computers, keyboards, and mice.
- Must be able to safely move throughout manufacturing and inspection areas, including around equipment, tooling, workstations, and materials.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and work in typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, dust, odors, and temperature variations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires an on-site presence. Working conditions include a combination of office and manufacturing environments and may be noisy at times. The employee will regularly work in and around composite manufacturing, production, warehouse, and other operational areas and may be exposed to manufacturing equipment, airborne dust and particulates, resins, adhesives, solvents, temperature variations, and other typical manufacturing conditions. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated areas. Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.
