Position Title
HVAC Sheet Metal Helper
Functionally Reports into
Superintendent
The Sheet Metal Helper assists with the fabrication, installation, modification, and repair of sheet metal ductwork and related HVAC components for commercial and industrial projects. This position supports field operations by preparing materials, maintaining tools and equipment, following safety procedures, and performing general labor duties to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with quality workmanship.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with the fabrication and installation of sheet metal ductwork, fittings, hangers, and HVAC components.

Measure, cut, assemble, and secure sheet metal materials under the direction of a Sheet Metal Mechanic or Foreman.

Operate and maintain basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

Assist with loading, unloading, organizing, and transporting materials, equipment, and tools to and from job sites.

Support installation of duct systems, grilles, diffusers, registers, dampers, and related HVAC components.

Seal ductwork and install insulation as required to meet project specifications.

Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of debris while maintaining a safe work environment.

Assist in identifying potential safety hazards and immediately report unsafe conditions to the Foreman or Superintendent.

Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and customer site requirements.

Perform material handling, inventory assistance, and general labor duties as assigned.

Assist with documenting completed work and maintaining accurate records when required.

Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.

Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
EXPERIENCE
-
0–2 years of construction, sheet metal, HVAC, or related field experience preferred.

Previous experience in commercial or industrial construction is a plus.

Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Must be able to pass required pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Skills & Qualifications

Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the sheet metal trade.

Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.

Ability to safely use basic hand tools and power tools.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions while working under the direction of a Sheet Metal Mechanic or Foreman.

Basic knowledge of construction safety practices and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Willingness to learn the operation of sheet metal fabrication equipment, including shears, brakes, rollers, and layout tools.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

High School Diploma or Equivalent
-
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work for extended periods.

Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms while using required fall protection.

Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.

Must be capable of performing repetitive movements involving hands, arms, and shoulders.

Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility vest, and steel-toed boots.
