Mechanical Drafter
Position Overview
The Mechanical Drafter is a critical addition to Burchland Manufacturing's growing engineering and product development function. This role is responsible for transforming 3D SolidWorks models into detailed manufacturing drawings, creating and maintaining technical documentation, supporting Bills of Material (BOMs), and establishing documentation standards that improve efficiency and consistency throughout the organization.
Initially, the position will focus heavily on drafting and detailing work, converting existing product designs into production-ready documentation. Over time, the role will evolve into a broader engineering support position with opportunities to participate in product design, process improvement, documentation management, and new product development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Design Documentation
- Convert 3D SolidWorks parts and assemblies into detailed shop drawings.
- Create manufacturing-ready drawings containing dimensions, tolerances, bend angles, profiles, and fabrication requirements.
- Generate PDF drawing packages for manufacturing and production use.
- Create DXF files for components.
- Maintain drawing revisions and document control standards.
- Ensure drawings accurately reflect product designs and manufacturing requirements.
Manufacturing Documentation & BOM Management
- Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) for manufactured products.
- Support BOM integration with QuickBooks and company systems.
- Support engineering change documentation and record updates.
Technical Writing & Product Documentation
- Develop and update operator manuals, service manuals, and parts manuals.
- Create exploded-view drawings and illustrated parts books.
- Produce user-friendly documentation that supports customers, dealers, service personnel, and internal teams.
- Assist in developing standardized document formats and templates.
- Create and maintain technical reference materials for products and assemblies.
Process Improvement & Standardization
- Help establish scalable documentation processes to support company growth.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and accessibility of engineering documentation.
- Organize and maintain digital file structures and document control systems.
Product Development Support
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel to understand design intent.
- Gather feedback from the shop floor to improve drawing quality and manufacturability.
- Support future product development initiatives as experience grows.
- Eventually participate in designing components and assemblies from concept through production.
Required Qualifications / Profile
Technical & Professional Background
- Associate's degree, technical degree, certificate, or equivalent experience in Drafting, CAD Design, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
- Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings preferred.
- Experience supporting fabrication, machining, welding, or manufacturing operations preferred.
- Knowledge of Bills of Material preferred.
- Technical writing experience is a plus.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
