Position Summary
The Flatbed Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of materials using a flatbed tractor-trailer. This position requires proper load securement, thorough equipment inspections, accurate documentation, and strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, DOT, and company safety regulations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, customer service, and responsible operation of company equipment.
Essential Job Duties

Operate a flatbed tractor-trailer to transport materials to designated locations.

Properly secure loads using chains, binders, straps, tarps, and other approved load-securement equipment.

Inspect loads to ensure proper weight distribution and compliance with applicable DOT regulations.

Perform required pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.

Maintain accurate driver logs and all required transportation documentation.

Comply with all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety policies.

Communicate professionally and effectively with dispatch, customers, supervisors, and other personnel.

Promptly report mechanical problems, accidents, delays, or other issues.

Assist with loading and unloading materials when required.

Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of assigned equipment.

Perform other transportation, general labor, or related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Ability to safely operate a manual or automatic transmission, as applicable.

Working knowledge of DOT load-securement requirements and regulations.

Ability to successfully complete a DOT-required physical examination and drug screening.

Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous flatbed driving experience.
-
Experience hauling steel, pipe, lumber, heavy equipment, or other industrial materials.

Experience with tarping and securing various types of loads.

Previous experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, or transportation environment.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

Lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Frequently climb on and off trucks and trailers.

Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and secure loads.

Stand and walk for extended periods.

Work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Safely handle chains, binders, straps, tarps, and other load-securement equipment.
Work Environment

Primarily an outdoor work environment.

Exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, and other varying weather conditions.

Extended periods of driving and sitting.

Frequent interaction with customers, dispatch personnel, supervisors, and other employees.

Home every night; overnight travel is generally not required. Occasional extended travel may be required based on business needs and assigned routes.
Safety & Compliance
This position requires strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
The employee is expected to:
