The Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a Registered Nurse who provides safe, patient-centered care through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. In this role, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patient populations while upholding professional standards, regulatory requirements, and Howard University Hospital’s nursing mission.
The CN II demonstrates clinical competence, professionalism, and accountability while contributing to quality improvement and unit-based initiatives.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care at the bedside
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families
- Provide compassionate emotional, psychological, and spiritual support
- Document patient care and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record
- Communicate patient status, changes, and care plans to the healthcare team
- Delegate tasks appropriately to nursing assistants and non-licensed personnel
- Administer medications and adhere to infection-control protocols
- Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Participate in unit-based performance improvement initiatives
- Serve as Charge Nurse when approved by the Nurse Manager
- Maintain professional development through continuing education
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience upon hire
OR
- Completion of HUH’s Professional Nurses Clinical Advancement Program (PNCAP) and 18 months of employment at HUH
Licensure & Certifications
- Current District of Columbia Registered Nurse license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- ACLS, PALS, and/or NRP required if applicable to specialty area

This position is covered under the DC Nurses Association (DCNA) collective bargaining agreement. Base pay range: $37.33–$62.43/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications per the DCNA wage scale. Effective July 1, 2026, the base range will increase to $37.89–$63.36/hr per the updated collective bargaining agreement.
Additional compensation may include a night shift differential for qualifying evening/night shifts and a weekend differential for qualifying weekend shifts.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule:
- Day Shift: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- 12-hour shifts
- Weekends and holidays as required by unit needs
