Who We Are
Founded in 1971, IACAA is the statewide membership organization of the Illinois network of Community Action Agencies. We serve all 102 Illinois counties by providing training, technical assistance, and advocacy that enables our member agencies to deliver life-changing services to families experiencing poverty. From utility assistance and weatherization to Head Start and job training, our network makes Illinois a stronger, better place. Our small, dedicated team works every day to support the people on the front lines of the fight against poverty.
The Opportunity
IACAA is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the CFO holds primary responsibility for all financial operations of the Association, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, cash management, grant compliance, and benefits administration. The CFO also provides fiscal technical assistance to our member agency network and helps shape organizational strategy. This is a rare chance to bring your accounting expertise to work that genuinely matters.
What You'll Do

- Lead the annual budgeting process and prepare accurate, timely financial statements for the President/CEO, leadership team, and Board of Directors.
- Prepare for and manage the annual external audit, including client-assisted workpapers and financial statements.
- Oversee grant/fund accounting, cost allocation plans, and all fiscal reporting for grant-funded programs.
- Lead or collaborate in the preparation of grant applications, including budget development and financial narrative, and contribute to post-award fiscal analysis and reporting.
- Manage payroll, banking relationships, accounts payable, and cash management.
- Serve as Benefits Administrator, supporting annual compensation and benefit plan updates.
- Supervise the Staff Accountant, Subsidy Program Specialist, and Special Programs Administrator.
- Provide fiscal assistance to member Community Action Agencies as a trusted network resource.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field is required.
- At least five years of accounting management experience, ideally in a nonprofit environment.
- Strong background in grant/fund accounting, budget development, audit preparation, and financial controls.
