Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys is seeking a full-time Accounting Assistant to join our Baton Rouge office.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Pay Range: $16-18/hr
Settlement Processing: Process settlements and deposits for Workers' Compensation and Personal Injury matters, ensuring transactions are completed accurately and efficiently.
Account Reconciliation: Verify expenses recorded in the case management system against the general ledger to ensure financial accuracy and identify discrepancies.
Financial Calculations: Calculate and apply in-house interest to client matters while maintaining accurate financial records.
Client Payoff Coordination: Request client loan payoff information and assist in gathering the documentation needed to facilitate settlement disbursements.
Document Management: Scan settlement memos and deposit documentation daily, properly rename and organize electronic files, and maintain accurate financial records.
Reporting: Generate weekly spreadsheets tracking settlement proceeds and provide accurate reporting to support departmental operations.
Departmental Support: Serve as a backup for settlement drafters and other accounting team members while assisting with additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Accounting Experience: Brings at least one year of accounting experience. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred, though equivalent experience in a high-volume accounting environment may be considered in place of a degree.
Technical Skills: Has experience performing reconciliations, data entry, and processing deposits while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Attention to Detail: Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial data, settlements, and confidential information.
