PURPOSE
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is an integral member of the Integrated Care team at Desert Senita Community Health Center, providing behavioral health services under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (BHP). The BHT supports individuals experiencing mental health disorders, substance use disorders, emotional disturbances, behavioral challenges, and co-occurring conditions by delivering direct client services, case management, care coordination, outreach, and psychoeducational support.
The BHT serves as a patient advocate and care coordinator, helping clients navigate medical, behavioral health, social service, and community resources while maintaining a safe, supportive, and recovery-oriented environment. Services are provided in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code, AHCCCS requirements, organizational policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical Services
· Conduct comprehensive 60-minute behavioral health intake assessments under the supervision of a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional.
· Gather psychosocial, behavioral health, substance use, medical, and social history information from clients.
· Complete behavioral health screenings, assessments, and documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
· Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the clinical team.
· Provide direct behavioral health services within the scope of a Behavioral Health Technician as permitted by Arizona regulations.
· Facilitate psychoeducational and skill-building groups focused on recovery, coping skills, relapse prevention, stress management, life skills, wellness, and community integration.
· Provide individual client support sessions focused on treatment plan goals and recovery-oriented care.
· Participate in discharge planning and transition of care activities.
· Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation.
Case Management and Care Coordination
· Maintain and actively manage an assigned caseload of behavioral health clients.
· Conduct weekly caseload reviews to monitor client engagement, treatment progress, and service needs.
· Coordinate care between medical providers, behavioral health providers, community organizations, social service agencies, and referral sources.
· Link clients to community resources including housing, transportation, food assistance, employment services, legal resources, and financial assistance programs.
· Assist clients in navigating AHCCCS benefits and behavioral health services.
· Monitor and follow up on referrals to ensure completion and continuity of care.
· Advocate for clients and assist in removing barriers to treatment and recovery.
Patient Engagement and Outreach
· Conduct outreach activities to engage clients who have missed appointments, are at risk of disengagement, or require additional support.
· Perform telephonic, community-based, and in-person outreach as appropriate.
· Collaborate with community partners, schools, hospitals, correctional facilities, and social service agencies to support client care.
· Serve as a liaison between clients, families, community resources, and healthcare providers.
· Assist with transportation coordination and other support services as permitted by agency policy.
· Promote client participation in treatment, recovery services, and wellness activities.
Front-End Behavioral Health Operations
· Check in behavioral health patients and assist with patient flow within the integrated clinic setting.
· Verify referral information and ensure appropriate behavioral health scheduling.
· Complete and process behavioral health referrals for internal and external providers and agencies.
· Coordinate intake appointments, follow-up services, and treatment appointments.
· Collaborate with medical staff and providers to facilitate integrated care services.
Documentation and Compliance
· Complete all documentation within required agency and regulatory timelines.
· Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
· Protect client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and chart audits as assigned.
· Adhere to Desert Senita Community Health Center policies, procedures, and behavioral health regulations.
Team Collaboration
· Work collaboratively with Behavioral Health Providers, Primary Care Providers, Care Coordinators, Case Managers, Nursing Staff, and Community Health Workers.
· Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision sessions.
· Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding client progress, concerns, and high-risk situations.
· Support integrated care initiatives that improve patient outcomes and access to behavioral health services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Meets Arizona requirements for Behavioral Health Technician designation.
· Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions preferred.
· Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
· Valid Arizona driver's license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record if transportation duties are required.
· Ability to obtain and maintain fingerprint clearance as required by Arizona law.
