At Palo Alto County Health System, we are proud to serve as the healthcare hub of choice in Northwest Iowa, delivering compassionate, personalized, and high-quality care to every patient we serve. As an RN Resource Supervisor, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring safe, efficient operations across the hospital while supporting staff and delivering excellent patient care.
In this role, you will serve as the administrative representative during your assigned shift, overseeing nursing personnel and supporting staff across departments to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the facility. You will provide leadership, guidance, and decision-making support in both routine and complex situations, helping maintain high standards of care, safety, and service throughout the organization.
You will support and supervise nursing staff by assigning patient care responsibilities based on staff qualifications and patient needs, monitoring care delivery, and promoting adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. You will evaluate care provided by nursing and ancillary departments to ensure quality outcomes, provide constructive feedback, and serve as a resource to staff for clinical and operational questions.
In addition to leadership responsibilities, you will provide direct patient care as needed and respond immediately to emergency situations throughout the hospital. You will assist in key operational functions such as discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and swing bed coordination when appropriate. This role also requires collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and leadership to communicate patient needs, departmental activity, and operational concerns effectively.
You will serve as a role model for professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care, supporting staff development through orientation, mentoring, and training. You will also help monitor quality measures, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support hospital initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
To be successful in this role, candidates must be graduates of an accredited school of nursing with a current and unrestricted Iowa RN license and required certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and TNCC. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of acute care experience, with supervisory experience and clinical background in areas such as emergency services and obstetrics strongly preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions in fast-changing situations, and effectively collaborate with a wide range of staff and departments. Flexibility in scheduling and a commitment to supporting both patient care and team success are key components of this role.
