We are seeking an experienced Land Surveying Party Chief to lead field crews on a variety of surveying projects, including construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical skills, sound judgment in the field, and the ability to manage a crew to produce accurate, efficient results.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct a survey crew in the field, ensuring safety, accuracy, and productivity on all projects
- Perform construction staking for a range of projects (roadways, utilities, sitework, structures, etc.)
- Conduct boundary surveys, including research, monumentation, and retracement of property lines
- Perform topographic surveys to collect and document existing site conditions
- Operate robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment to collect survey data
- Interpret construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, and survey control
- Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and data files
- Communicate daily with the project manager/office regarding progress, discrepancies, and site conditions
- Ensure proper care, calibration, and maintenance of survey equipment
- Coordinate with other trades, contractors, and property owners on-site as needed
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Survey Party Chief or in a similar lead field role
- Working knowledge of general land surveying principles, including boundary law and legal descriptions
- Hands-on experience operating robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS survey equipment
- Experience with construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plats, and legal documents
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain
- Ability to lift/carry survey equipment (typically up to 50 lbs)
Preferred Qualifications
- Survey-related certification or coursework
- Experience with data collection software (e.g., Trimble Access, Carlson SurvCE, or similar)
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar survey/CAD software
- Prior experience in a supervisory or training capacity
Pay: $30.57 - $36.82 per hour
