Medical Assistant / Medical Office Assistant
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant / Medical Office Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide both clinical and administrative support to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient office operations. This role requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a pediatric practice.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations and treatments by escorting them from the waiting area to exam rooms.
- Triage patients by obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical history, laboratory specimens, and urinalysis.
- Review laboratory results and report findings to the physician for evaluation and guidance.
- Administer injections, vaccinations, and other treatments as directed by the physician.
- Collect, process, and prepare laboratory specimens for courier pickup.
- Perform newborn heel stick blood specimen collection for state newborn screening in accordance with physician delegation and practice protocols.
- Assist physicians with office procedures and provide additional patient care as needed.
- Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record (eClinicalWorks).
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment between patient visits in accordance with infection control standards.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies, vaccines, medications, and clinical equipment.
- Ensure adequate stock levels by ordering, receiving, organizing, and rotating supplies according to office procedures.
- Monitor vaccine storage temperatures and maintain appropriate vaccine inventory in accordance with practice protocols.
- Dispose of expired medications and supplies in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms and clinical work areas.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Answer and triage incoming patient phone calls, relaying messages and responding appropriately.
- Assist with front office duties, including patient check-in/check-out as needed.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up visits.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Submit referrals to specialists and coordinate referral documentation.
- Obtain and submit prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and diagnostic testing.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support physicians and office operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certification required.
- Two years of previous experience as a medical assistant in a medical office or outpatient clinic with at least one year of strong pediatric clinical experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control practices.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR), preferably eClinicalWorks.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with referrals, insurance verification, and prior authorizations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with physicians and other staff.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
