American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Psychiatric for a 13-week contract at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 2 years of psych nursing experience and CPI certification.

Adult Behavioral Health unit within an academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma Center
-
24-bed unit with a daily census of 18-20 patients
-
Open day room unit treating adult patients (18+) with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation
-
Not a designated detox unit, though some patients may be naturally detoxing
-
May care for recently postpartum patients with compounding psychiatric diagnoses requiring inpatient treatment
-
RN to patient ratio of 1:6 and MHT to patient ratio of 1:12
-
12-hour day shift schedule (0630-1900), 36 hours per week
-
Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
-
No on-call or call-back requirements

Floating required to Peds Behavioral Health
-
Unit supported by CNAs, MHTs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
-
Uses Encompass/Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing

Unit equipped with seclusion room, restraint bed, and restraint chair
-
Active RN license (NC or Compact) required

Current BLS and CPI certifications required
-
Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience required
-
Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Skilled in de-escalation techniques and experience with physical and medical restraints
-
Experience with medication passes and patient documentation
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels

Ability to work collaboratively within a treatment team
-
At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
-
Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously in a permanent position
-
Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify (local candidates not accepted)

Provide direct and indirect patient care to adult psychiatric patients including those with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation
-
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team including MHTs, CNAs, and other support staff
-
Comfortability running therapeutic groups is a plus but not required
-
Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
-
Unit culture is patient-centered with an emphasis on dependability and strong teamwork

Royal blue scrubs required
