Job Description
The Member Service Representative | Mortgage Specialist accurately and efficiently assists credit union members with their financial transactions, loan applications, account openings, resolving problems, and assists with questions as well as guides members through home loan options. The mortgage specialist will also assist in interviewing, originating and processing mortgage loans for members.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Member Service Rep:
- Interview consumer loan applicants, review and analyze credit reports as well as the completion of all related documents.
- Assists members with opening and closing accounts, answers questions about products and services and problem resolution.
- Deliver exceptional service to members both in person, by phone and by other additional communication channels.
- Maintains working knowledge of the Credit Union’s products and services and is able to cross-sell products and services to fit our members' needs.
Mortgage Specialist:
- Interview loan applicants, explain mortgage programs, and recommend the best products for each member.
- Collect financial documents, prepare initial disclosures, and submit complete files for underwriting.
- Ensure all applications and files follow federal regulations and internal credit union guidelines.
- Serve as the main point of contact from application through closing
Experience and Education:
Experience - 2 to 5 years of similar or related experience. Credit union experience preferred.
Education - A high school education or GED. College Associates degree or higher is preferred.
· Other Skills/Abilities Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft computer applications.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Efficient time management and organizational skills.
· Analyze tax returns, bank statements, and credit reports to judge if a borrower can pay back a loan.
· Know federal and state lending rules, plus guidelines from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
· Use Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and customer tools like MeridianLink.
· Understand conventional, FHA, VA, and construction loans.
· Explain hard math and legal terms in simple words.
· Build trust and keep members calm and informed during a stressful process.
· Accuracy in processing member transactions
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
· Notary Public (or be willing to obtain)
· Mortgage License Originator (or be willing to obtain)

Pay: $20.00 per hour/negotiable upon experience
Supplemental Pay: Bonus pay
