My Gym McLean is hiring two part-time Kids Fitness Coaches. $18–21/hour, and you need to live within about 20 minutes of McLean — this is a short-shift job, not a commute job.
Do you make kids laugh without really trying?
If you can sing a silly song in front of twelve toddlers, run a puppet show with a completely straight face, and be the most exciting adult in the room for forty-five minutes at a stretch — this is a job you will actually look forward to.
First, the honest part about location.
Our coaches work short, frequent shifts. That works beautifully if you live in McLean, Tysons, Vienna, Falls Church, Great Falls, Oakton or Arlington. It does not work if you are driving in from DC, Maryland, or south of the Beltway. We have watched good people burn out on the commute inside of two months. Please don't apply if that's you — we would rather say it now than waste your time.
What you'll actually do
- Lead classes for children from a few months old up to age 10 — music, games, obstacle courses, gymnastics basics
- Sing, dance, run puppet shows, and hype up "Surprise Time" like it is the best news of the week
- Spot children safely on the bars, rings, zip line and beam. We train you on every bit of it.
- Make every parent in the room feel like their kid is the one you are watching
- Run birthday parties — two hours, very high energy, genuinely fun
- Keep the gym clean and safe between classes
Who we're looking for
- Real energy, and no hesitation about being silly in front of an audience
- Reliable. You show up when you said you would. This matters more to us than anything on your résumé.
- A background in dance, cheer, theater, gymnastics, sports, camp counseling, babysitting or teaching is a plus — but it is not required. We train you completely from zero.
- You want to get better at something, not just collect a paycheck
- High school graduate or currently enrolled in college
- Comfortable being on camera now and then for our social media
Pay
- $18–21 per hour. Every coach starts at $18 — the range reflects tips, which our families give often and which are yours on top of your hourly rate.
- Incentive plan based on performance from day one
- Paid training
- If you are a parent, your own child attends My Gym classes free
Hours — and yes, we build them around you
- 15–25 hours a week, part-time only. We are not hiring full-time.
- Typical weekday shifts: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM in the mornings, 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM in the afternoons
- Typical weekend shift: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM, with birthday parties running 2:30 PM – 7:30 PM
- We schedule around your availability. Tell us what you have and we will work with it.
- Two fixed commitments: Fridays 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM for our paid team meeting and training, and one consistent weekend day.
Where this can go
Most of our Shift Leads started right here, on the floor, with no experience. If you want to grow into a lead or management role, say so in your application — we will show you exactly what the path looks like and roughly how long it takes.
Two things to know before you apply
We ask for a one-year commitment. Our kids get attached to their coaches and turnover is genuinely hard on them, so if you are looking for something for a few months, this is not the right fit.
If we move forward, we will ask you for a 60-second video: introduce yourself and sing any children's song the way you would perform it for a room of two-year-olds. It is the fastest way for us to see whether you are a fit, and it is honestly the fun part.
