Summary
An instructinal paraprfessinal is a schl emplyee wh wrks under the directin f a certificated staff member t supprt and assists in prviding instructinal, behaviral, and functinal prgrams and services t children with disabilities r eligible yung children. The supprt and assistance include ne-n-ne r grup review f material taught by certificated staff, classrm management and implementatin f psitive behavir supprt plans. Services may be prvided in a special educatin class, regular educatin class r ther instructinal setting (e.g., cmmunity-based instructin) as prvided in the student’s IEP. Instructinal paraprfessinals shall meet ne f the fllwing qualificatins:
- Have cmpleted at least 2 years f pstsecndary study.
- Pssess an assciate degree r higher.
- Meet a rigrus standard f quality as demnstrated thrugh a State r lcal assessment.
- Participate in 20 hurs f apprved staff develpment activities annually.
Essential Duties and Respnsibilities:
Assist the principal and ther prfessinals in maintaining a safe and rderly schl envir
Assist the special educatin and regular educatin teachers in the delivery f apprpriate instructinal and tutrial strategies as per the individualized educati
Under the directin f the teacher, prvide instructinal supprt fr the purpse f supprting/reinfrcing lessns (e.g., administering tests, tutring r reinfrcing instructi
Under the directin f the teacher, cllect bservatinal and academic data fr the purpse f prgress mnit
Maintain students’ files/recrds fr the purpse f dcumenting activities and/r prviding reliable infrmati
Under the directin f the teacher, fllw and implement psitive behavir supp
Handle students’ persnal needs (e.g., feeding, tileting, diapering, etc.) fr the purpse f prviding care t students wh may r may nt have medical cnditins, but the medical cncern is nt the primary rientatin f
Assist students’ safe transitins frm/t lcatins and envirnments within and arund the schl (e.g., bus, cafeteria, cmmunity-based instructi
Participate in specialized training related t specific individualized needs
