SUMMARY OF POSITION
Therapists provide individual and group support to teens and youth at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme locations to promote mental and emotional wellness, prevent teen dating violence, and help youth navigate family, social, and academic challenges.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
A Master’s Degree in the clinical field is required.
Essential Functions
- Provides therapy to teens and youth (ages 5–18) on-site at various Boys & Girls Club locations.
- Conducts support groups for youth in response to their identified needs.
- Attends required individual and group supervision with the appropriate Clinical Supervisor.
- Collects clinical file documents as required by the Navigation Team protocol; prepares treatment plans, clinical assessments, progress notes, and other client documentation on Coalition’s electronic health record system.
- Collect pre- and post-test surveys with youth to measure outcomes.
- Provide documentation to the Controller’s office and Boys & Girls Club administration regarding attendance and services provided.
- Attend collaborative meetings with Coalition and Boys & Girls Club staff regarding service delivery updates.
- Attend internal and online training opportunities on issues about domestic violence, sexual assault, underserved populations, and more.
Schedule
- This position must expect to work afternoons, evenings, and some Saturdays.
- Arriving on time for your shift is a requirement due to the essential functions of this job, including providing therapy to youth.
- This position is eligible for overtime benefits.
Certifications
- Must obtain Domestic Violence Counselor certification that meets California Evidence Code 1037.1 requirements within one year of hire date.
- Must obtain Sexual Assault Counselor certification that meets California Evidence Code 1305.2 requirements within one year of hire date.
- Must complete agency LGBTQ+ 101 cultural sensitivity training within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge Base/Skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
- Basic computer literacy in G Suite and Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word.
- Basic knowledge of general office equipment is required.
- Must demonstrate strong crisis management skills
- Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Regularly expanding knowledge base on topics of gendered violence, impacts of domestic and sexual assault on the community, working with survivors of violence, and more by reading literature, blogs, and news posts, etc., is expected.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to communicate with clientele over the phone, through electronic correspondence, and in person.
- May be required to stand, sit, stoop, bend, and lift/move up to 10 lbs.

- Must be able to demonstrate working effectively with and showing respect to all survivors of violence, including those from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, sexual preferences and/or identities, gender identities/expression, and political backgrounds.
- The ability to communicate and write clearly and professionally is required.
- Must navigate crisis and solve problems independently, using best judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Must maintain a positive, friendly, and welcoming attitude with staff and clients within the organization.
- Must utilize assertiveness, professionalism, and non-violent communication when handling issues with residents or staff.

- Must pass an extensive Coalition for Family Harmony and Boys & Girls Club background check.
- Travel may be required for this position.
- This position is considered a Mandated Reporter per the BBS.
