Overview
Smooth Stone Construction is seeking an Experienced Dirt Foreman to lead and manage all on-site earthwork, supervising crews operating heavy machinery (excavators, dozers, loaders) to ensure safe, efficient completion of excavation, grading, and trenching tasks according to project plans, budgets, and timelines, while also handling daily site logistics, safety protocols, and communication with superintendents. Should be proficient in interpreting blueprints, manage material flow, track equipment, conduct daily safety briefings (Toolbox Talks), and mentor crew members, ensuring quality control and adherence to all company and OSHA standards. Minimum 10 years experience required.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily excavation and earthwork activities, ensuring adherence to project plans and schematics.
- Manage and coordinate crews, equipment, and materials on-site to optimize productivity.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents to guide work processes.
- Utilize construction management software such as Primavera P6, HeavyBid, or similar tools for project scheduling and budgeting.
- Conduct quality control inspections to ensure work meets safety standards and project specifications.
- Oversee safety protocols in compliance with OSHA regulations; enforce safety policies among team members.
- Monitor project progress, update schedules, and communicate status to stakeholders regularly.
- Manage subcontractors and vendors; review contracts and scope of work as needed.
- Use technical tools such as ohmmeters for electrical testing when necessary on site.
- Ensure proper documentation of work activities, change orders, and safety incidents throughout the project lifecycle.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction management with a focus on earthwork or dirt operations.
- Supervising experience leading construction crews in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and construction estimating processes.
- Proficiency with construction management software including Primavera P6, Primavera P6, HeavyBid, or equivalent programs.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and best practices for construction sites.
- Ability to read technical schematics and use measurement tools such as ohmmeters effectively.
- Excellent project scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong management skills with a focus on team leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
