Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center is seeking a specialized Public Safety Systems Administrator to manage the critical data infrastructure supporting emergency response. This role focuses on the high-level administration, maintenance, and integrity of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) databases that support 911 operations across Salt Lake County.
Database & System Administration

Administer, configure, and maintain the CAD system and its associated enterprise geodatabases to ensure 24/7 reliability for emergency services under the direction of the Sr. CAD Administrator.

Manage GIS database tables, forms, and reports, ensuring seamless data flow between mapping layers and dispatch functions under the direction of the Sr. GIS Administrator.

Perform critical system maintenance, including updates, patches, and backups to safeguard public safety data.

Monitor and maintain data accuracy and integrity within the CAD system, conducting regular audits and performance reviews.

Coordinate hardware maintenance with the Technical Services teams to ensure infrastructure stability.
Data Integration & Quality Assurance

Establish and implement GIS standards, protocols, and best practices to ensure database consistency and regulatory compliance.

Oversee the integration of complex datasets—including address points, road networks, and jurisdictional boundaries—into the CAD and MDT environments.

Conduct rigorous Address Verification Quality Assurance (QA) checks to ensure precise emergency call routing.

Resolve data discrepancies and performance bottlenecks affecting real-time dispatch operations.
Strategic Coordination & Support

Provide advanced technical support and guidance in database planning and the development of new system solutions.

Collaborate with local and state agencies to standardize spatial data across multiple jurisdictions.

Develop and deliver technical training for staff and agency partners to ensure efficient use of mission-critical systems.

Partner with vendors for software upgrades, system migrations, and the implementation of disaster recovery protocols.
Working Conditions

- Environment: Office setting with extended periods of computer-based administration.

Physical: Regular standing and walking; occasional lifting of equipment up to 40 pounds.

Schedule: Must maintain regular attendance during operating hours, with the understanding that there is potential for evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.

Experience: 2+ years of combined education and/or experience in CAD/GIS systems administration and or enterprise database management preferred.

Technical Skills:

Strong working knowledge of database management programs, procedures, and applications.

Experience with system administration, troubleshooting, and hardware/software support in an enterprise environment.

Familiarity with Windows-based mapping technologies and CAD system functionality.
- Licenses: Valid Utah driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire).

Compliance: Ability to pass drug screening, fingerprinting, and a comprehensive criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, GIS, or a related field.

Proficiency in ESRI software, including ArcGIS Enterprise Server and Geodatabase Administration.

Experience with Public Safety systems (e.g., Versaterm) or 911 dispatch operations.
